Something Familiar

East African culture is anything but homogeneous.  Just as there is a difference in lifestyle between farmers on the plains of rural Kansas and that of residents in the heart of New York City, such is the case here too, except that here the difference is far more pronounced.

We saw relatively few familiar brand names while we lived in rural Tanzania, but here in Nairobi the signs of a global economy are everywhere.  The sign above is just a few minutes from our house, and I did not realize until I saw it how much I miss double whoppers with cheese!
