In the LCMS we have districts, a synodical president, district presidents, helping offices like DCE and DCO, and most parishes are comprised of one congregation. In east Africa we have dioceses, archbishops, bishops, helping offices like deacon and evangelist, and most parishes are comprised of many congregations. The biblical teaching is the same, but the church structure is obviously very different!
Reading C.F.W. Walther’s Church and Ministry has been a great refresher course for me this past week as I think through these matters in a different context than I ever have before. I’m grateful for the good work CPH does in making resources like this available, and I’m especially grateful to live in the age of Kindle, where I can get books like this on my iPad in Africa at the press of a button!
